Rhythm games and virtual reality goes hand in hand, and for enthusiasts of metal music who picked up the PlayStation VR2 at launch, you can now pair both together with WanadevStudio’s Ragnarok. First release for the Windows PC in mid-2021 for other VR platforms, this is the first time the ‘metal rhythm’ game has been available on console.
When you think of VR rhythm game, especially with a metal music theme, you may think of performing in a concert hall – perhaps hitting prompts or strumming a guitar as the crowd goes wild. Not in Ragnarok. Instead, you fill the boots of Viking-era captains who are competing in a longboat race. With hammers in hand, the captains must strike runes in rhythm to a musical beat, featuring songs from Celtic rock to power metal, in order to make their ship go as far as possible.
Promoted features of Ragnarok include:
In the standards of rhythm and arcade games
Following the tradition of arcade games, Ragnarock is easy to play, hard to master. To advance, only your sense of rhythm counts. The most experienced players will be able to collect all the gold medals, beat the high scores and put their name on top of the leaderboard.
Immersive environments
The games take place in different environments for an immersion in the heart of the worlds of Norse mythology: Asgard, Nidavellir, Muspelheim, Alfheim, Midgard and Helheim.
Ragnarok can be enjoyed as either a single-player experience, or alongside five other players. The PlayStation VR2 version has also been tailored to and developed to benefit from “the specificities of the new PS VR2 headset”.
A total of 36-tracks, featuring music from the likes of Wind Rose, Alestorm, and Gloryhammer are featured in the game. If you want to listen to the songs you will be playing along to in advance, check out this Spotify playlist.
The entire team is very proud to bring our work on Ragnarock to the Playstation community. The experience of playing Ragnarock on PS VR2 is going to be a great experience and we can’t wait to challenge all the new Vikings in multiplayer races. We would also like to give a special thanks to all of the amazing bands that have come on board with us for the Ragnarock adventure.
