Ahead of the game’s release on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC from 22 September 2022, Square Enix has this week released a free playable consumer demo of The Diofield Chronicle on all supported platforms. This is a whole-new strategy RPG franchise from the iconic developer, setting out to deliver gamers an “epic tale of war and honor”.
The demo sets the stage as DioField Island suddenly finds itself cast into an age of uncertainty due to the rise of warlike powers and modern magic. Players can experience the game to the end of chapter one, which Square Enix hopes captures the game’s “fast-paced action-packed combat utilizing small squads consisting of various unit types with unique battlefield roles in a sprawling campaign”. In particular, it should give players a taste of what to expect from The Diofield Chronicles’ Real Time Tactical Battle (RTTB) system.

Your progress in the demo will only go so far, but what progression you do build up can be transferred to the final release when it launches – including game progress and character levels.
The Diofield Chronicles features character designs by Taiki (Lord of Vermilion III, IV), concept art by Isamu Kamikokuryo (FINAL FANTASY XII, FINAL FANTASY XIII) and orchestrated music by composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell, known best for their work on Game of Thrones. Yup, this is another video game project in 2022 which features links to Game of Thrones.
