During last nights Pokémon Presents livestream, fans of the long-running RPG franchise were treated to their first look at the 9th generation of Pokémon games currently in development, titled Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Being developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, the aim is to have it rolled out to fans in late 2022.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are being developed by GAME FREAK Inc, and as with the shift in generation, aims to “take a new evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series”. A hopefully better take on open worlds than offered by Sword and Shield, trainers are invited to “an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness”. Pokémon are also set to have a greater presence in the world, appearing in the skies, in the sea, and on the streets as you navigate across the world.
A small aesthetic change is that depending on what game you purchase – Scarlet or Violet – the trainers will have a different outfit, both of which are rather cute. It is unconfirmed whether changing apparel options will be possible, and if so, whether the change in game also offers exclusive outfits.
As usual, new trailers will be able to start their journey with one of three starter Pokémon – Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon, Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon, or Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon. Pokedex profiles for all three are available below:
