In what could be one of the last ever games from the studios receiving a PlayStation console exclusive instead of Xbox, Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks has announced that their upcoming action-adventure game Ghostwire: Tokyo shall be heading to the PlayStation 5 and Windows PC on 25 March 2022. Did a potential AAA-hit get its release date confirmed a little more than a month out from launch? Yes, yes it did.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is set in a world filled with Japanese legends, folklore, and tales, set among an ultra-modern cityscape. According to Tango Gameworks, their stories “have inspired many of the unusual creatures you will encounter, giving Ghostwire a true-to-Tokyo flavor”, which will unfold as you ” Tokyo’s ultra-modern cityscape, discover iconic landmarks, and uncover secrets hidden throughout it”.

Ghostwire: Tokyo will see players master the the mystical arts of Ethereal Weaving while working to defeat the menacing Hannya and his followers, the Visitors, who have invaded Tokyo. In addition to the main narrative, players are encouraged to venture off the beaten path, and meet characters in need of assistance, spirits in need of rescuing and  unexpected purry friends who can exchange rare finds for generous rewards. Tango Gameworks claim that the optional stories on offer are “not the usual side content fare, but rather lovable tales that further flesh out the game’s world and vision”.

Ghostwire: Tokyo’s launch consoles were grandfathered in during Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, although it is probable it will be available on the Xbox Series X|S at a later date.
