Originating as a mod for Half-Life 2 in 2011, The Stanley Parable has stood the test of time as a meme-worthy game which has received critical claim from many (including myself) for its clever writing, unique take on narrative structure and always being one step ahead of the player. A new updated release of the game on PC and (for the first time) consoles, titled The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, was announced by developer/publisher Crows Crows Crows for release in 2019. Well that never happened, with the game postponed to 2020… then 2021. Now at the end of the year we have received what appears to be a more definitive release window of Early 2022.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe features the full original game that was released in 2013 (The remade version, not the original mod), with the developer also boasting they have expanded “the world of the original game with new content, new choices, and new secrets to uncover”, summarising this as “the labyrinth has just gotten bigger”. In addition to this, the game is being visually recreated to “reflect modern technology while faithfully preserving the tone of the original game”. Plus… who can say no to even more of Mr Narrator, Kevan Brighting?
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe’s Steam page has gone live, with interested gamers able to add it to their wish lists. Expect to see it roll out on console store fronts at launch.
