In an alternate video game world, COVID-19 never happened and apparently the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo went ahead without the year-long delay. Both developed and published by SEGA and originally released exclusively in Japan back in 2019, the game is finally receiving a western release on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on 22 June 2021.
Players will be able to partake in 18 Olympic events and as one of several countries. Sports on offer include:
- 100m
- 4x100m Relay

- Hammer Throw
- Long Jump
- Baseball
- Basketball

- BMX (Cycling)
- Boxing
- Judo
- Rugby Sevens
- Football (Soccer)
- 100m Freestyle (Swimming)
- 200m Individual Medley (Swimming)

- Tennis
Adding a bit of quirkiness to the mix, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game features an Avatar Creator which gives players the chance to “create the Olympic athlete of their dreams” with more than 100 “colourful wardrobe options” available – from traditional country kits to some more… outlandish offerings. Gamers will also be able to compete in many of the events collectively through local and online play with up to 8-player support.
The Olympic Games are a unifying symbol of sportsmanship and competition for athletes and fans throughout the world. Tokyo 2020 channels that positive spirit into a fun, arcade-style experience for friends and family to play together as we all look forward to the start of the Olympic Games this Summer.
