Genshin Impact Version 1.2 to Launch Before Year’s End

With the holiday season almost here, your mind may be drifting to a few weeks of quiet, which might be filled up by completing some games in your backcatalogue. If the recently released open-world adventure game Genshin Impact is on your list, then you will have new reasons to log back in and resume your adventure from 23 December 2020. Developer and publisher miHoYo has this week confirmed that the game’s Version 1.2 update will launch on this date.

Titled “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon”, this will be the game’s first map expansion update, granting players access to the frigid frozen realm of Dragonspire. It is a frozen mountain range south of Mondstadt and home to plenty of unique creatures, a lost ancient civilization, bountiful ingredients, rare artefacts and more. Covered by snow all year round, Dragonspine’s extreme weather also challenges every Traveller to survive the biting cold. To the enjoyment or annoyance of some, this setting also opens up a new “Sheer Cold” bar. At such cold temperatures, keeping warm becomes the most important thing that players need to keep in mind, whether in combat or exploration.

The game’s gacha system will also be updated to introduce two new five-star characters for those lucky enough to unlock them – Albedo and Ganyu. Featured in the upcoming “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” questline, Albedo is a young yet legendary genius alchemist in Mondstadt, wielding a sword and the power of geo. Ganyu is a half human, half-adeptus Cyro archer who serves as an emissary and secretary for the Liyue Qixing. In Version 1.2, players can also get a closer look into Ganyu’s story through her personal side quest.

The new seasonal event, “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon”, will also take place in Dragonspine. Travelers will join Albedo, the genius Chief Alchemist and Captain of the Investigation Team of Mondstadt’s Knights of Favonius, to investigate a sword with mysterious power known as the Festering Desire. By participating in the seasonal event, players can not only obtain and fully refine the Festering Desire but also redeem rich rewards from the event shop, including the Crown of Insight.

Expect to hear more about Genshin Impact Version 1.2: The Chalk Prince and the Dragon in the days and weeks leading to its release on 23 December 2020. You will be able to play it on the PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
