First introduced in the Nippon Ichi Software developed RPG Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and becoming a mascot character of the company ever since, a Prinny (Plural: Prinnies) is the soul of a human criminal forced down into the Netherworld after death and forced to perform manual labour in the form of a demonic stuffed penguin until their sentences are up. Known for being weak with a penchant of exploding if thrown, they are hardly main character material.
Many years ago on the PlayStation Portable, these hesitant, explosive mascots headed out on two platforming adventures in Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? and Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!. Both were challenging platformers, which saw you traverse the plains of the cruel and unforgiving netherworld as part of a 1,000-strong Prinny Squad. 1,000 lives may seem like plenty of lives to tackle any platformer. But with the hazards that face them and the opportunity to… sacrifice.. members of the squad for extra damage, that number can quickly dwindle down.
Now in 2020, Nippon Ichi Software and their Nippon Ichi Software America division are giving you the chance to either experience their gallant adventures for the first time, or torture them once more. Titled Prinny 1•2: Exploded and Reloaded, the collection containing both games is now available in North America exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, with a European release planned for 16 October 2020 and ANZ release on 23 October 2020.
