[E3 2016] New God of War Game in Development by Santa Monica Studio

Preceded by a powerful instrumental score (Which I described on Twitter as sounding like someone was about to come on stage and begin a quest for world domination), Sony Interactive Entertainment launched their annual E3 press conference by announcing the development of God of War by Santa Monica Studio. It is unknown whether or not this will be the final title, as this isn’t a reboot, but rather continues the original God of War chronology.

Immediately jumping into a demo, this snippet from the game features a much older Kratos, who is teaching his son how to hunt. While there is plenty of gameplay on display, including some RPG elements such as a knowledge point system, the most interesting thing displayed in its 10 minute runtime is the interesting dynamic and relationship shared by the two. Time will tell if this father-son bond is explored in-depth across the games entirety, or if this is only one scene out of something much larger.

Development for God of War is ongoing by Santa Monica Studio, with plans for it to launch exclusively on the PlayStation 4. No release date has been confirmed as of writing.
