Bluey’s Big Play is heading back to the show’s home city, with the stage adaptation of the animated series set to play the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s newest venue, the Glasshouse Theatre, next year during the summer school holidays (13-24 January 2027).
The 45-minute production brings Bluey, Bingo, Mum (Chilli) and Dad (Bandit) to the stage through puppetry, music and the kind of imaginative play the TV series is known for. Its story begins with a simple domestic standoff. Dad would like nothing more than a quiet afternoon on the bean bag, but Bluey and Bingo have other plans, and the pair turn to every game, idea and bit of ingenuity they can come up with to get him off the couch and joining in.
The show has strong ties to the series behind it. It was written by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, features original music by composer Joff Bush, and includes the voices of Melanie Zanetti as Mum and David McCormack as Dad.
QPAC Chief Executive Rachel Healy welcomed the show’s return and spoke about bringing it into the centre’s new venue, where scenes recognisable from the series can be seen beyond the foyer:
It’s a delight to welcome Bluey’s Big Play back to Brisbane, giving more families the opportunity to experience this much-loved live production. We can’t wait to welcome Bluey into our newest venue, the spectacular Glasshouse Theatre, with so many quintessential Brisbane scenes from the series such as South Bank and the Wheel visible through the foyer’s rippled glass.
QPAC is immensely proud to welcome Bluey’s Big Play to its stage and to continue supporting the success of this uniquely Australian story that resonates with audiences across the world.
