Presented by Louise Withers and Associates, the Australian producer behind the first national tour of Matilda the Musical, it has today been confirmed that the production will return to Australia next year – commencing at the Melbourne Princess Theatre from October 2027 before heading to both the Sydney Lyric Theatre and the QPAC Lyric Theatre sometime in 2028. A waitlist is now open for all three confirmed states, which you can submit your details for via the production’s official website.
Based on the iconic Roald Dahl novel of the same name, and featuring a book by Dennis Kelly and music/lyrics by Tim Minchin, Matilda the Musical follows the titular character around how she with her imagination, brilliant mind, unbreakable spirit and yes, being a little bit naughty, dares to stand up to the injustice posed by her new school’s nasty principal, Miss Trunchbull.
On the auditions side of things, they are now open for all roles in the adult cast, with submissions for audition consideration closing on Friday 4 September 2026. More information on this process can be found via the production’s official audition page – with Melbourne and Sydney audition sessions locked in from mid-October until early-November. Auditions for the child cast for each state meanwhile will commence from Early 2027.
