The performance and comedy pair CREEPY BOYS will be showing their Edinburgh Fringe production SLUGS in Melbourne this October, with the show running at the Meat Market as part of the Melbourne Fringe in 2026.
Created by real-life partners S.E. Grummett and Sam Kruger, SLUGS sets out to combine electro punk music, theatre, clowning, and puppetry in a 60-minute live performance. Among its stranger elements are a puppet version of Joni Mitchell and a two-person horse, with the show centered on two people attempting to enjoy themselves while the world around them burns.
Melbourne also has a personal connection to Grummett and Kruger, with the pair having lived in the city during the first COVID-19 lockdown. They initially stayed in Brunswick before moving to an apartment in Moonee Ponds, and that period became an important part of both their relationship and their creative partnership.
Reflecting on their return to Australia and the role Melbourne played in developing CREEPY BOYS, the pair said they were particularly excited to finally perform in the city in front of a live audience.
We CAN NOT express how excited we are to come back to Australia. We spent a year in Melbourne during the initial COVID-19 lockdown, and have such intense, albeit odd, memories of that year. Melbourne is really where we became not just two people dating, but partners, both in life and in art. We’ve said for years, it is our favourite city in the world and we can’t wait to be back.
The connection between the performers and the audience plays a central role in SLUGS, since the piece was designed from the beginning to exist entirely as a live event.
Grummett and Kruger have carried out tours throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia as members of the group CREEPY BOYS, as well as under their individual projects. They have performed at events such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre, Latitude Festival, SummerWorks, PuSh Festival, Prague Quadrennial, Midsumma Festival, Adelaide Fringe and Fringe World, and their work has also been broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
SLUGS is being produced by SKINT and will be shown at the Stables at the Meat Market from 1 to 17 October 2026; tickets are now on-sale via the Melbourne Fringe Website.
