A 300-seat venue named Teatro will soon open inside Leichhardt’s Italian Forum, adding another professional stage to Sydney’s Inner West. Joint artistic directors Nathan M. Wright and Andrew Bevis have pitched that the theatre will focus on fully staged musicals and other live performances presented by Australian talent.
The inaugural production, The Addams Family, begins on 3 October 2025, presented in partnership with On Your Feet. Many cast members are recent graduates of THEatreBRIDGE, Teatro’s in-residence training company that matches emerging performers with experienced mentors.
Looking ahead, the theatre has secured the Australian premiere of the Broadway musical The Prom for March 2026. A waitlist for tickets is already open. Teatro also intends to program cabaret nights, comedy, workshops and family events, aiming to provide a range of opportunities for both artists and audiences.
Co-Artistic director Nathan M. Wright shared the following thoughts:
We’re creating the kind of theatre venue Sydney is crying out for — bold, professional and artist-led. Teatro is here to raise the bar for what audiences can expect from musical theatre in the Inner West.
