Australian audiences more broadly will soon be able to immerse themselves in the festive spirit with A (VERY) MUSICAL CHRISTMAS, a collaboration between the Michael Cassel Group and ABC, designed to support Beyond Blue’s mental health initiatives. Following the sold-out live performance and recording of their potentially new Christmas concert tradition, it has been confirmed that the production will be available as both the originally planned televised broadcast and a music album.
The broadcast will air on ABC TV and ABC iview at 7:30 pm on Friday, 20 December 2024. Music enthusiasts can also enjoy the album on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and YouTube, with pre-save options currently available.

Filmed live on the set of Hamilton, the production features performances by some of Australia’s most celebrated artists, including Casey Donovan, Cody Simpson, Eddie Perfect, Jason Arrow, Marney McQueen, and Beau Woodbridge. Cast members from Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Titanique also join the line-up, presenting beloved Christmas classics with their own unique twists.
Additionally, the concert features some notable creatives including Director/Choreographer Brendan Yeates, Music Director Hayden Barltrop, Lighting Designer Paul Collison, Sound Designer Michael Waters, and Technical Director Clif Bothwell, with ABC Audio led by Director Cameron McCauley and Mixing Engineer Greg Wales.
The event was created to support Beyond Blue, a national organisation providing free 24/7 mental health support services. Recognising the challenges the festive season can bring, A (VERY) MUSICAL CHRISTMAS seeks to raise awareness of these resources while bringing joy to audiences, and fundraise in support of a genuinely amazing organisation.

Michael Cassel, Producer and CEO of Michael Cassel Group, reflected on the production’s impact:
As soon as I experienced A (VERY) MUSICAL CHRISTMAS, I knew it was something special that deserved to be shared far and wide. The energy in the room, the incredible talent on stage, and the heartfelt joy of the audience made it an unforgettable night. I’m thrilled that this extraordinary performance will now live on as an album for everyone to enjoy and to support the vital work of Beyond Blue.
Meanwhile, KABC’s Head of Arts, Music and Events, Kath Earle, praised the event’s artistic quality:
This production was truly magical, with some of Australia’s most talented artists bringing Christmas to life in a moving and uplifting way. It was a joyous celebration of music and Christmas, and we’re thrilled that with the help of ABC Music we are able to share it with audiences across the country
On behalf of Beyond Blue, its CEO Georgie Harman also expressed gratitude for the partnership:
We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by the performers, producers, and everyone involved in A (VERY) MUSICAL CHRISTMAS. The holiday season can be challenging for many so this event, which offers hope and information about Beyond Blue’s free, 24/7 mental health support, is timely, valuable and important for millions of Australians.
