Michael Cassel Group Unveil A (Very) Musical Christmas, Supporting Beyond Blue

Date:

The Australian theatrical producer behind Australian seasons of the likes of Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Michael Cassel Group has announced A (Very) Musical Christmas, a festive musical celebration to be filmed live and broadcast nationally on ABC this December. Set on the stage of the ongoiing Sydney encore season of Hamilton, this performance will feature a line-up of Australia’s prominent musical theatre talents performing classic carols and holiday songs.

This holiday special, in support of Beyond Blue, aims to bring seasonal cheer while raising awareness about mental health. Proceeds from ticket sales for the live recording will go to Beyond Blue, supporting accessible support resources for those facing challenges during the festive season among other initiatives. Hosted by ABC Classic’s Megan Burslem and ABC News’ Jeremy Fernandez, A (Very) Musical Christmas will include performances by a range of well-known artists including Eddie Perfect, Cody Simpson, Casey Donovan, Justine Clark, Tim Draxl, Jason Arrow, and cast members from Hamilton, Titanique, and Dear Evan Hansen. Additional performers will be announced soon.

For those in Sydney and keen on attending the event live on 2 December 2024, tickets are available to purchase via the A (Very) Musical Christmas official website.

Michael Cassel, CEO and producer of the Michael Cassel Group, shared his thoughts on the production, stating:

This production is a heartfelt celebration of the season and a way for us to give back. We are thrilled to partner with Beyond Blue to support mental health, especially during the festive period when many can feel isolated, while also celebrating the incredible musical talent we have in Australia.

Georgie Harman, CEO of Beyond Blue, also expressed gratitude for the collaboration:

The festive season is a time for connection and joy, but it can also be a time of loneliness, financial stress and relationship strain. This exciting production continues a longstanding partnership between Beyond Blue and the Michael Cassel Group. And, thanks to the ABC’s national broadcast, the event will remind people right around the country that Beyond Blue is always there, no matter what they’re going through – and that there’s no problem too big or too small.

The televised event, directed and choreographed by Brendan Yeates, will air on ABC TV and ABC iview on Friday, 20 December, at 7:30 pm, with subsequent broadcasts on ABC Radio.

ABC’s Head of Arts, Music, and Events, Kath Earle, added:

We are thrilled to be airing this joyful celebration of the festive season showcasing the incredible breadth of Australian musical talent. It’s a wonderful opportunity for audiences to come together and share in the magic and music of Christmas.
