Additional Principal Cast Members Announced for Jesus Christ Superstar Australian Tour

Date:

Crossroads Live Australia has announced two additional principal cast members for their incoming Australian tour of the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Reuben Kaye, an internationally recognised comedian, singer, and writer from Melbourne, will take on the role of Herod. Kaye’s previous credits include The Butch is Back, Live and Intimidating. Peter Murphy on the other hand will portray Pilate in the Sydney and Perth seasons. Murphy has performed in major productions across Australia and internationally. His notable roles include Galileo in We Will Rock You (London and Japan), Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar (Scandinavian tour), and appearances in Les Misérables, Rent, and Shout!.

They join an already announced cast of talent, including Michael Paynter (Sydney and Melbourne) and Robert Tripolino (Perth) as Jesus, Javon King as Judas, and Mahalia Barnes as Mary. The production will also feature Elliot Baker as Caiaphas, John O’Hara as Annas, and a talented ensemble of performers.

Citing strong demand, additional tickets have been released for the Sydney run, with performances at the Capitol Theatre now extended until 19 January 2025.

Producer John Frost shared his excitement about the upcoming production, stating:

I am thrilled to be bringing this award-winning production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much loved musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR to Australia with this extraordinary cast. Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has created a fresh and bold new version of a beloved classic which will enthrall both longtime fans of the show and delight those seeing it for the very first time.

Australia has a deep affection for JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, and the ticket sales and interest in this new production are proving that. I can’t wait for rehearsals to begin next week to see this powerhouse cast bring new life to the songs we know and love.

Jesus Christ Superstar is set to debut at the Sydney Capitol Theatre from 6 November 2024, before commencing in Perth’s Crown Theatre from 13 February 2025 and Melbourne’s Princess Theatre starting 16 March 2025. Ticketing information for each currently confirmed leg of the Australian tour can be found via the musical’s official website.
