As a child growing up in the 90s, the TV show Round the Twist, based on the literary works of Paul Jennings, was a staple of television viewing every day after school. Although production of the 4-season comedy drama concluded in 2001, more than two decades later, Queensland Theatre are concluding their 2024 Season by producing a musical based on Round the Twist – to be presented in the QPAC Playhouse from 12 November 2024 until 1 December 2024 inclusive. To say I am excited about this, would be an understatement.
Round the Twist the Musical will be directed by Simon Phillips, and feature a book, music, and lyrics by Paul Hodge.
In an old lighthouse, single dad Tony Twist and his kids Pete, Linda and Bronson are about to embark on a magical adventure to unravel a 100 year old mystery and protect their home from the greedy Gribble family who want to turn their piece of paradise into an Aqua-World-Casino-Pizza-Parlour-Burger-Joint-Amusement-Park.
With the help of a haunted outhouse, a crystal ball, some friendly ghosts and smelly feet (up the pong!), this family might just have what it takes to save the day!
Somewhat fitting following their excellent casting of four young Queensland artists for the roles of Leon and Jasper in their ongoing season of Medea, Queensland Theatre have opened up an opportunity for three young male actors based in Brisbane to feature in the alternating role of Bronson Twist, the youngest of the Twist family who was portrayed in the original television show by three actors – Rodney McLennan, Jeffrey Walker and Mathew Waters.
For those interested in the opportunity, you should visit the Queensland Theatre’s dedicated auditions page HERE to access the open casting call briefing and casting pack. However do note that applications close in just over two weeks time on Wednesday 5 June 2024.
