Since their earliest days producing the Harry Potter parody musicals, I have loved a majority of the works by musical creator, producer and presenter Starkid Productions. While initially thriving on their parody musicals, including The Trail to Oregon! and Twisted, since 2018 they have built their own horror comedy universe centered around the small town of Hatchetfield and its many alternate timelines. This started with The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals and has since expanded to 2019’s Black Friday and the Nightmare Time webseries run during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, the third major musical in the Hatchetfield series, Nerdy Prudes Must Die was performed in the Los Angeles El Portal Theater from February 16th to 25th. Just in time for Halloween, Starkid Productions took their normal approach of releasing a free ProShot recording of the entire musical on Youtube, in addition to releasing Digital, DVD and Blu-ray versions with extra features via their official digital storefront.
Nerdy Prudes Must Die is a teen-slasher comedy about a group of geeks and their ghostly tormentor from the creators of The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals and Black Friday. When the biggest losers at Hatchetfield High unwittingly complete an ancient, evil ritual, they unleash an all- powerful, angry spirit with a grudge against nerds. That’s when Stephanie Lauter, Grace Chasity, and a cast of social rejects must fight to save themselves and nerdy prudes everywhere. But can any of them survive the fury of a bully from beyond the grave?
The cast of Nerdy Prudes Must Die feature a range of Starkid originals and those who have joined the company over the years – including Will Branner, Bryce Charles, Mariah Rose Faith, Angela Giarratana, Lauren Lopez, Jon Matteson, Curt Mega, Joey Richter, Kim Whalen, David Hamilton and Virginia Vass – with the ProShot production featuring cameo appearances from other Hatchetfield series cast members including Jae Hughes, James Tolbert, Dylan Saunders and Jeff Blim.
