Producer John Frost expressed his excitement for the revival, highlighting the show’s fun nature, iconic songs, and choreography as key elements that will make it the “party musical” everyone will be talking about.
I am thrilled that GREASE, one of the world’s all-time favourite musicals, is returning to Australia in a brand-new production featuring an all-Australian creative team. GREASE has always been about having fun and coupled with the much-loved songs and choreography, I know that this will be the party musical that everyone is talking about for a long time to come
Since its Broadway premiere and the subsequent hit movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, GREASE has continued to be presented around the world – from amateur theatre productions to major national tours. The Tony Award-nominated musical seeks to captivate audiences with a combination of adolescent angst, dynamic physicality, and 1950s pop culture. The film adaptation went on to become the highest-grossing movie-musical of all time.
Upon its original Broadway closure in 1980, GREASE held the record for the longest-running musical with 3,388 performances. The recent addition of the Pink Ladies series on Paramount has further expanded the GREASE universe. The musical’s enduring popularity has led to various adaptations over the years, including a 1982 film sequel, a 2007 competition reality series, Broadway revivals, and numerous international productions. The upcoming Australian production hopes to bring fresh excitement to the classic show, delighting new and returning fans alike.
