Given the impacts of the 2011 Brisbane Floods, you would think that much of the infrastructure lining the Brisbane River would have been made as impervious to water as possible in the decade following the significant weather event. But it is one thing to say that and another to actually see it implemented. For the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), while they could get a few of their theatres back up within a couple of weeks of the major 2022 floods, the Playhouse has remained dormant for several months now.
This is set to change from next month, with QPAC confirming the re-opening line-up of performances for the Playhouse, involving two of the Queensland state performing arts companies – Queensland Ballet and Circa. The first performances in the venue will commence on 10 June 2022 with Queensland Ballet’s season of Li’s Choice, which serves as a celebration of 10-years of Li Cunxin being the company’s artistic director. Tickets to this season are now on sale, both via the Queensland Ballet Season Pass and individual purchase via the QPAC Website / QTIX Box Office (136 246).
Following Li’s Choice, Circa will be returning home to Brisbane, following an international season in Singapore to perform an encore season of Carnival of the Animals from 29 June 2022. Tickets will go on-sale from Thursday 12 May 2022 exclusively via the QPAC Website or through calling their QTIX Box Office (136 246).
