Come From Away Headed to HOTA For Three Week Gold Coast Season in July

A musical about resilience, community and friendship in the face of tragedy, Come From Away is such a fantastic musical for the current times we live in. While illness and the COVID-19 pandemic have seen the show’s Australian tour run longer than the producers probably expected, there are still many more people they have to invite to ‘The Rock’. In attendance at Gold Coast’s HOTA: Home of the Arts in South East Queensland earlier today, producers Rodney Rigby and Junkyard Dog Productions announced that a three week season of Come From Away will be held in the venue’s main theatre for three weeks in July 2022.

Although not the first time that Come From Away has been held in Queensland, it first performed at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in early-2021; this will be the first time the production is being shown in a non-capital city venue. It will also be one of the first touring Broadway musicals at HOTA since its broader cultural precinct was launched in recent years.

The season was announced during a special event earlier today, which you can watch in its entirety via the HOTA Facebook Page below.

With a company consisting of performers from the original Australian cast along with some new actors taking on new roles, the ensemble who will take on the roles of both the ‘Come From Awayers’ and the townsfolk of Gander, NewFoundLand include Zoe Gertz, Manon Gunderson-Briggs, Douglas Hansell, Kat Harrison, Joe Kosky, Phillip Lowe, Joseph Nalm, Emma Powell, Katrina Retallic, Kaya Byrne, Noni McCallum, Michael Lee Porter, Alana Traner and Jasmine Vaughns. Come From Away features a book, music and lyrics by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, with direction by Christopher Ashley, choreography by Kelly Devine, music supervision by Ian Eisendrath, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Howell Binkley and sound design by Gareth Owen.

So you may be asking… how can I get myself tickets to this production? The three week season of Come From Away at HOTA: Home of the Arts will run from 7 July 2022, with tickets to become available first to HOTA Members from Wednesday 23 March, with waitlist subscribers gaining access from Wednesday 30 March.

The announcement was made today by Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, HOTA Chief Executive Criena Gehrke and Producer Rodney Rigby

I am thrilled to be bringing Come From Away to the sixth largest city in Australia, the Gold Coast. It is a rare opportunity that a first-class musical of this calibre is being presented exactly as it is seen on Broadway and London’s West End on the HOTA stage.
