Following its latest Australian tour in 2018, the theatrical adaptation of the Hitchcock classic film North By Northwest is headed to the Sydney Lyric Theatre from March 2022. This season will be exclusively held in Sydney, and will feature actor David Campbell as the suave advertising executive Roger O. Thornhill – who finds himself drawn into a thrilling action-packed tale of mistaken identity, kidnapping and espionage.
I had the opportunity to both see and work on North by Northwest when it was at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), and it proved to be an incredibly entertaining tale with a very creative delivery of set designs and “special effects”.
This latest production was originally produced by Kay & McLean Productions (who are lead producers of the 2022 production) in association with the Melbourne Theatre Company – with Simon Phillips as Director, Carolyn Burns as Playwright, Esther Hayes as Costume Designer, Nick Schlieper as Lighting Designer and Ian McDonald as Composer. Starring alongside David Campbell is Amber McMahon as Eve Kendall, Bert Labonté as Vandamm, Genevieve Lemon as Mrs Thornhill, Berynn Schwerdt as Budnikov – alongside Dorje Swallow, Kaeng Chan, Lachlan Woods, Nicholas Bell, Sharon Millerchip, Tony Llewellyn-Jones and Wadih Dona.
Previews of North by Northwest will commence on Wednesday 9 March 2022 and are currently planned until at least Sunday 27 March 2022, with more performances expected to be added. Tickets will be available to purchase to the general public from Friday 5 November 2021 at 9.00am via Ticketmaster.
