Jack (pictured left) and Minerva (pictured right), just after having their Eternal Bond Ceremony in Final Fantasy XIV

The idea of an in-game wedding system such as the Eternal Bond system in Final Fantasy XIV was at one point utterly ludicrous to me. This all changed, however, as my lone wolf playstyle adapted itself to be more ingrained in the communities I was active in. In December 2018, I decided to partner with my long-time in-game friend Jack. Us two Lalafell’s have been running around, causing mischief together ever since. Granted this would have been more fitting to post on our first anniversary, I came across our ceremony photos today and had to edit this beautiful photo. It was taken as we isolated ourselves from the 50ish attendees, and had ourselves a private photo session.

While In-Game photography is a means of being artistic within a virtual environment, it is also a fantastic way of capturing memories to look back on weeks, months or years down the line when a moment may no longer be remembered. That ceremony, that accomplishment or that personal highlight can be captured with the click of a button. Regardless of whether you have time to pose or have no time to plan, it is better to have a memento of the occasion than not.

Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo is an off-shoot of the upcoming Take That (In-Game) Snap article series. This looks at, celebrates and critiques how video game developers have implemented professional photography-like systems into their games. It will cover how the systems handle, just how accessible they are and, where applicable, how a modding community might be making these tools even better. With this Daily Photo spin-off series, I will be sharing individual photos from the games either covered or soon-to-be-covered in the series.
