I started playing Final Fantasy XIV on a more regular basis following the release of its Stormblood expansion pack. At this point in time, much of the content from the base game was easily soloable, including the extreme challenges. Grinding for mounts, I started with arguably the easiest of them – The Howling Eye (Extreme) or Garuda EX. The boss is a cakewalk nowadays, but it still has a really nice environment to take portrait photos in.

After tackling this run with my White Mage in 2017, I started randomly taking photos using the game’s gpose mode, the results of which can be found above and below. While I would not be so chill standing in the eye of such as gale, being in such a situation is clearly commonplace for this Lalafell.

Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo is an off-shoot of the Take That (In-Game) Snap article series, in which the first article focusing on Final Fantasy XIV was recently published. This looks at, celebrates and critiques how video game developers have implemented professional photography-like systems into their games. It will cover how the systems handle, just how accessible they are and, where applicable, how a modding community might be making these tools even better. With this Daily Photo spin-off series, I will be sharing individual photos from the games either covered or soon-to-be-covered in the series.
