Australian metal band Northlane has been announced as contributors to the soundtrack of Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson, a pixel-art RPG adventure by Playdigious Originals. Known for their progressive metalcore sound, the band’s involvement adds a heavier edge to the game’s whimsical world.
Northlane, featuring Jon Deiley, Josh Smith, Nic Pettersen, and Marcus Bridge, has released six studio albums, including Singularity (2013) and Alien (2019). The band has won multiple ARIA Awards for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album, and their innovative approach to heavy music has earned them a prominent place in the metalcore and progressive metal genres.
Fretless: The Wrath of Riffson is inspired by musician and content creator Rob Scallon. Set in a vibrant musical rock world, where music is intertwined with the environment. The game features turn-based combat and a deck-building system. Players embark on a quest to restore harmony to a corrupted land under the rule of Rick Riffson, the tyrannical head of Super Metal Records. The game seeks to combine creativity with strategic gameplay, offering diverse build options, from high-damage attacks to life-stealing combos.
A demo is currently available on Steam, where the game has already garnered over 58,000 wishlists. The full release is planned for 2025.
