Crunchyroll has announced that Gachiakuta, the highly anticipated shonen anime adaptation of Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andou’s manga, will stream exclusively on its platform in Summer 2025 (Winter 2025 for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere).
Produced by Bones Film (My Hero Academia, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), the series promises a dystopian revenge-driven narrative, graffiti-inspired art, and intense action sequences set against the backdrop of a world where both trash and criminals are discarded into an abyss.
The anime follows Rudo, a young outcast who is framed for murder and exiled into a vast wasteland known as The Pit. As he fights to survive against monstrous Trash Beasts, he navigates this brutal world while seeking a way back to his home—and revenge against those who betrayed him.
Crunchyroll holds the exclusive worldwide streaming rights for Gachiakuta, excluding Belarus, Russia, and Asia but including India. The anime will be helmed by a notable creative team, including:
Director: Fumihiko Suganuma (Train to the End of the World – Chief Episode Director, Storyboard Artist)
Series Composition: Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan Final Season, Mob Psycho 100)
Character Designer/Chief Animation Director: Satoshi Ishino (Date A Live, Tokyo Mew Mew New)
Music Composer: Taku Iwasaki (Bungo Stray Dogs, Shin Kamen Rider)
Originally serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since February 2022, Gachiakuta quickly gained recognition, winning the Global Special Prize in the Next Manga Awards 2022. The series is known for incorporating graffiti elements into its artwork, a concept introduced by co-creator Hideyoshi Andou. Reflecting on the adaptation, the creators shared their excitement:
When I’m writing the scripts for Gachiakuta, it makes me want to blast my music. It makes me want to go out and have some fun. And it gives me the urge to meet up with my work buddies and friends for a good meal. An anime that makes you feel that way is the best. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
Hiroshi Seko, Screenwriter

About Gachiakuta
Crawl back from the abyss of Hell to change this lousy world!
Rudo lives in the slums of a floating town, where the poor scrape by under the shadow of the rich who live a sumptuous life, simply casting their garbage off the side, into the abyss. Then one day, he’s falsely accused of murder, and his wrongful conviction leads to an unimaginable punishment—exile off the edge, with the rest of the trash. Down on the surface, the cast-off waste of humanity has bred vicious monsters, and if Rudo wants to have any hope of discovering the truth and seeking vengeance against those who cast him into Hell, he will have to master a new power and join a group known as the Cleaners who battle the hulking trash beasts of the Pit!
