Announced in the wee hours of this morning, international anime streaming platform HIDIVE has confirmed they’ve secured the exclusive simulcast rights to The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess, also known as Hikikomari Kyūketsuki no Monmon / ひきこまり吸血姫の悶々, which is set to begin airing as part of Japan’s incoming Fall 2023 anime season. This TV anime is being developed by Project No.9, and is based on the original light novel works of Kotei Kobayashi (writer) and Riichu (illustrator), of which eleven volumes have been published as of writing.
The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess centres around a vampire named Terakomari Gandesblood (aka. Komari), who has spent the past three years of her life as a shut-in. However, she awakens to find she’s been appointed as a Commander in the Mulnite Imperial Army! The thing is, her new unit consists solely of belligerent ruffians who revolt against their superiors at the slightest hint of weakness. Although Komari hails from a line of vampires as powerful as they are prestigious, her refusal to drink blood has made her the picture of mediocrity—scrawny, un-coordinated, and inept at magic. With the odds stacked against her, will the help of her trusty (and slightly infatuated) maid Vill be enough for this recluse to blunder her way to success? Or will Komari rue the day she ever left the safety of her room.
The anime adaptation is being directed by tatsuma Minamikawa, with writing by Keeichirou Oochi. In terms of Japanese voice casting, the series stars Tomori Kusunoki as Terakomari Gandesblood, Sayumi Suzushiro as Villhaze and Yōko Hikasa as Karen Helvetius.
Commenting on their new acquisition, President of HIDIVE, John Ledford, shared the following:
We’re thrilled to have acquired The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess as a HIDIVE exclusive simulcast series. This new series joins our exciting Fall 2023 Season line-up and will definitely be a blood-sucking good time for both vampire and comedy fans alike!
