CrunchyRoll Expo Headed to Melbourne in September 2022 1

What does seem as a formal replacement to the Madman Anime Festival given recent movements in the Australian anime space in the past year, it has been confirmed that the first ever CrunchyRoll Expo outside of North America will be hosted at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17-18 September 2022. It has been confirmed that the same team behind MAF will be involved in the presentation of this 2-day event, although it does not seem like it will be touring the country.

A full schedule for the event will be shared in the coming weeks and months, but what has been confirmed is that it will feature “appearances by voice actors and other industry professionals, in addition to special screenings, cosplay competitions, live musical performances, gaming, manga, art, official merchandise and more”. Given the global pandemic has meant that anime voice actor talent hasn’t been able to make it Down Under for years, here’s hoping CrunchyRoll have some big names in store.

The mission of CrunchyRoll Expo Australia is pitched as follows:

Crunchyroll Expo Australia comes as part of Crunchyroll’s commitment to provide fans with a deeper experience with their favourite series, following the recent unification of Funimation Global Group brands under the Crunchyroll banner. Just like the unification, Crunchyroll Expo Australia will bring together the biggest anime series, voice actors, and creators in one place.

We are thrilled to add another Crunchyroll Expo to our events lineup and celebrate with our fans in Melbourne.

The appetite for anime in Australia is exploding, and we are excited to create a space where current and future fans can connect, all with the Down Under flavour our passionate local team is thoughtfully designing specifically for fans in that region.
