Joining a growing list of anime in the “Anime I didn’t expect to see ever licenced outside Japan, but acquired by Sentai” category is 2006 comedy TV anime Gargoyle of Yoshinaga House (吉永さん家のガーゴイル). Confirmed earlier today, Sentai has announced that they hold distribution rights to the show, which will see the zany, family friendly series made available internationally in the coming months.
What is Gargoyle of Yoshinaga House I hear you ask? It follows the tale of the Futaba Yoshinaga, who find themselves a winner of the local lottery. Grand prizes that come to mind may be a family holiday, or copious amounts of delicious food… but nope, she is awarded a stone gargoyle…. yay? But things get interesting when she discovers the ‘Gargoyle’ lives! Not only that, he can speak, fly and fire potentially lethal energy beams. Naturally, like any good gargoyle, he is bound to protect the Yoshinaga home from any and all threats. The once mundane, ordinary Yoshinaga household just became a place of magic, excitement and plenty of laughs!
Gargoyle of Yoshinaga House is directed by Iku Suzuki (Yumeiro Patissiere, Happy Lesson, DearS), with scripting and series composition from Takao Yoshioka (The Familiar of Zero, Elfen Lied, Your Lie in April).
The series’ Japanese voice cast stars Chiwa Saito (Gugure! Kokkuri-san, Bakemonogatari, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) as Futaba Yoshinaga, Kouki Miyata (Trigun, Amnesia, Gravitation) as Kazumi Yoshinaga and Norio Wakamoto (Azumanga Daioh, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Hellsing Ultimate) as Gargoyle. Sentai has not confirmed whether they will be offering an English dub or not.
