During Gamescom 2015, Chris Roberts and the team at Cloud Imperium Games announced an ambitious alpha release schedule for Star Citizen. One of these goals was to launch their first alpha (albeit functionality limited) version of the social module by the end of this month.
The goal was to have this out by the end of August 2015, and there was some question whether they would achieve this target. Although it is possible not all backers will be able to access this version by the months end, access to the test has begun rolling out to a limited number of Star Citizen players.
Previously, players have only had access to their Hangars and the “Electronic Access” Arena Commander mode (provided they had Alpha Access on their account or the $5 Arena Commander Pass). The social module in its current state allows players to leave their hangars for the very first time and explore the ArcCorp hub area alongside other players. At the moment it is limited to one area, but here’s hoping players will be able to visit each others hangars soon.
It is currently unknown exactly how long it will take to roll out to all players, but expect to be leaving your Hangar sometime in the near future.
