Cloud Imperium Games have a reason to celebrate today, with today’s pledge total of $166,512 (At this moment) bringing their crowdfunding total for Star Citizen to beyond the $70,000,000 mark. This milestone follows them hitting their $60 Million goal just a few months ago on November 1st 2015, and only solidifies Star Citizen as being the most successful crowdfunding campaign to date by no insignificant margin.
Unfortunately it is unknown if this significant target will deliver gamers a particular stretch goal, with their last stretch goal being at the $65 Million mark for “Enhanced Ship Modularity”.
Star Citizen is an ambitious space trading and combat simulator helmed by Chris Roberts, who has previously worked on the Wing Commander series among other titles. Star Citizen is not one game per ce but rather a compilation of six modules which culminate into one persistent universe. At this time, the Arena Commander and Hangar modules have been released in an alpha format, with the Planetside and First-Person Shooter modules having been shown off in some shape or form during stage presentations.
Crowdfunding has primarily relied on pledges for various ships, with the cheapest game package being $45.00 for an Aurora MR Arena Commander package and going up to hundreds and thousands of dollars for different high-level ships and ship bundles.
