This evening, a number of stars are set to walk the red carpet at Birch Carroll and Coyle Pacific Fair cinemas for the Gold Coast Film Festival 2014 opening night. Between April 3rd and 13th, there will be a number of screenings aimed at more mature audiences ranging from independent films to the latest in Japanese anime.
However with a younger population also residing across the Gold Coast the team behind the festival will be offering three film screenings throughout the event at different locations throughout the city. These screenings will be targeted at younger audiences but will still highlight examples of fantastic films from the 1960’s through to the late 1980’s. All screenings will be complementary, with movie-goers to the Coomera and Palm Beach events invited to bring their own bean bags, blankets, cushions and comfy seats (With seats also available). All seating is already provided at the Helensvale screening.

Our community screenings are an important and treasured part of our program and this year we have extended our festival footprint branching out into different regions of the Gold Coast with these screenings and again selected films for their appeal to youth and adult audiences to bring all families and all ages together for a great day of entertainment.

Bastian is a young boy who lives a dreary life being tormented by school bullies. On one such occasion he escapes into a book shop where the old proprietor reveals an ancient story-book to him, which he is warned can be dangerous. Shortly after, he “borrows” the book and begins to read it in the school attic where he is drawn into the mythical land of Fantasia, which desperately needs a hero to save it from destruction.
The Princess Bride

Based on William Goldman’s novel of the same name, The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). The Princess Bride offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley’s (Cary Elwes) journey to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright), his true love, away from the evil prince (Chris Sarandon), whom she had agreed to marry five years after hearing false accounts of Westley’s death.
