For those who have been reading the “anime” section of this site for the past few years, I am not a big fan of the series that go on for hundreds of episodes. While it may not adhere to my personal preferences, it is undeniable that One Piece has been highly successful in the Japanese and international markets to warrant the production of over 600 TV episodes, the localization of said episodes and a plethora of video game adaptations.
This brings us to the latest news coming out of Bandai Namco earlier today, that they will be publishing One Piece: Unlimited World Red to international markets later this year on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U platforms. Developed by Ganbarion Co. Ltd. and based on the 70+ volume manga by Eiichiro Oda, this latest iteration has been classed as an action-adventure RPG that already hit Japanese markets in November last year – surprisingly only on the Nintendo 3DS.

In this game, The New World and its fierce challenges await Luffy and his Nakama. Players will reportedly live the complete pirate adventure thanks to “fun-filled escapades, action-packaged battles and powerful allies” in an exclusive scenario. ONE PIECE fans will be playing as all of their favourite Straw Hat crew members and progress through the storyline where they will be challenged by famous boss battles such as Crocodile, Rob Lucci, Caesar Clown and many others. Mastering many skills will be mandatory in order to execute numerous flashy combos, to dodge or interact with enemies etc.
Players will also be able to summon the assistance of friends with co-op support and then enjoy mini-games such as fishing and bug-catching with them.

As one of the most successful manga we ever witnessed, ONE PIECE is a phenomenon that deserves AAA adaptations. We decided to team-up with Ganbarion to create a new opus for the “Unlimited” series. Thanks to their expertise, we are sure to have an amazing game where all the details from the ONE PIECE universe will be perfectly pictured. On top of that, we are really proud and happy to have a never-before-seen scenario for this game!
