Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with publisher Square Enix have shared the launch trailer for their upcoming “Definitive Edition” release of Tomb Raider (2013) on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For release in both North America and PAL regions over the next couple of days, this new “current generation” console edition of the 2013 original includes the following:
Updates to Lara Croft
- An all new face and head for Lara, handcrafted exclusively for next-gen!
- TRESS FX technology that delivers realistic hair simulation and motion for the new Lara
- Increased polygon body density with new sweat, mud and blood materials and effects
The Design of the World
- Underbrush reacts as Lara passes by, wind whips tree branches and tattered cloth around, rain pierces through searchlight beams as individually lit particles
- All texture resolutions have been increased by over 4x for maximum detail
- In-game characters have been enhanced for added realism
- Subsurface scattering technology literally renders the world’s beauty beyond skin deep
- Native 1080p gameplay
Other Bits and Bobs
- Digital version of the comic produced by Dark Horse Comics
- All original DLC Content
- Brady Games mini-artbook
- Final Hours developer videos
BUT, the question remains if all these bonus additions in Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition add to the experience, or if it is nothing more than a game re-released on a new console at full price. Check out The Otaku’s Study over the next couple of days for a full review of the game’s PlayStation 4 edition release.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is being published by Namco Bandai Games Australia in Australia and New Zealand.
