While they were well and truly before my time, Hewson Consultants were one of the early developers in the video game marketplace, starting with Space Intruders in 1981 and ending with Zarathrusta in 1991. While they never released anything under that title again, they have brought the company into the 21st Century with a new Kickstarter campaign… just not one you might be expecting from them. Introducing Hints & Tips for Videogame Pioneers.
The book’s author, Andrew Hewson, was the founder of Hewson Consultants (Uridium, Paradroid, Nebulus), 21st Century Entertainment (Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies) and the founding Chairman of United Kingdom trade body ELSPA (Now known as UKIE). His book will feature contributions from numerous industry icons, including Steve Turner, Nick Jones, Oliver Frey, Andreas Axelsson, Roger Kean, Stewart Gilray, and many more.
More information on the book can be found on the Kickstarter campaign page. Currently the campaign needs a mere £12,000 to get off the ground with almost 3,000 pledged as of this post. In terms of pledge bonuses, you only need £10 for a digital copy of the book, £20 for a physical copy and a number of other goodies up to the already filled £500 goals. Kickstarter backers will have the opportunity to contribute to the book in a number of unique ways, including a backer’s interview section.
Andrew Hewson | Founder of Hewson Consultants
When I started in the games industry with a ZX80 and a typewriter, it was an era of open platforms and cutting edge innovation. Today, thanks to digital distribution and the re-emergence of open platforms, we are returning to the kind of industry in which small creative teams can flourish. This book is an opportunity for me to share my experiences from two decades at the cutting edge of gaming with the industry pioneers of tomorrow.
