With so many consoles being released this year….is there any room for another one? PlayJam think so with their CEO Jasper Smith recently confirming a global on-sale release date for the GameStick as Tuesday 29th October 2013. Retailers GameStop, GAME, and Amazon will partner for the launch with additional outlets in Canada, Europe and the Middle East receiving stock prior to the end of year Holiday season.
The console, which broke onto the games scene in January of this year following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, has moved from paper to production in just 9 months. Originally slated for release earlier in June, the company has pushed back launch twice to meet it´s QA targets and to ensure it´s Kickstarter backers were the first to take delivery of the product before it hits the shelves.

While to myself and the team at PlayJam the journey seems longer, we have in fact come a significant way in a very short period of time with GameStick. The challenge of bringing affordable gaming to the big screen has always sat at the heart of everything we do and GameStick represents a huge step forward in reaching that goal. We’re extremely proud of what we have achieved and look forward to families getting their hands on devices in the run up to Christmas.
PlayJam has remained firm in its commitment to honour its promise to their Kickstarter backers to fulfil their units ahead of the retail launch. Those units will ship out at the end of the month with retail following thereafter.
The question remains if with the major consoles being launched on the market, the GameStick will be able to remain competitive despite the initial demand from the Kickstarter campaign which netted PlayJam $647,658 from 5,691 backers.
