Of all the licensed games from the mid-2000s that could have been brought back, few would have guessed this one. Yet here we are: Shrek 2 is getting a remaster. Aspyr, working with Universal, has announced DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered, an updated version of the 2004 action-adventure game based on the DreamWorks Animation film, launching on 10 November 2026.
The remaster is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital pre-orders are open now on all platforms at a 10% discount, bringing the price down to $26.99 from $29.99. On PlayStation 5, a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to receive the discount.
Players once again join Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and friends on a trip through the kingdom of Far Far Away, travelling from Shrek’s swamp to Fiona’s castle and meeting familiar faces from the film along the way. The game keeps its simple pick-up-and-play action, with iconic moments from the movie and hidden Easter eggs to find.
Everything has been rebuilt with improved textures, an updated interface, enhanced cutscenes and support for 4K resolution. Players can now switch between heroes at any time on every platform, using each character’s abilities to fight enemies, take down bosses and solve environmental puzzles.
Co-op has also been expanded. Up to four players can team up locally on the couch, online, or in a mix of both. New additions include a Photo Mode for capturing snapshots, and a Cheats Menu for players who want an easier run.
