Witchspire has received its second major update in three weeks. Envar Games has released Dormant Powers for its open-world co-op adventure, now available on Steam as part of the game’s ongoing Early Access.
A new salvage system lets players break down unwanted items and use them to create new ones, and for the first time that includes a familiar. Scrappy is a new companion that can only be obtained through crafting, with six versions available, each with its own elemental ability. Scrappy can also be salvaged, though Envar Games jokes that only a heartless witch would do so. The update also improves familiar controls and adds an emote wheel, finally letting players give their Locto a scratch under the chin.
The biggest change is Weapon Systems 2.0, one of the largest mechanical overhauls the game has had. The weapon enhancement table now lets players freely swap Spell Gems between weapon bases to find the combinations that suit them, and both weapons and Spell Gems can be upgraded, so a favourite spellblade can stay useful for longer. New spells have also been added, including support options such as shielding and healing, opening up more room for teamwork while others focus on dealing damage.
Sigils are another new addition. These items add extra effects to spells, such as firing several projectiles at once or having spells orbit the player. Rarer spells can hold more Sigils, encouraging players to experiment with different setups.
Dormant Powers follows Haunted Magick, which arrived earlier this month. That update brought quality-of-life improvements such as inventory sorting, along with new outfits and player heads, an 82-piece Gothic building set, more than 40 bonus building decorations and two familiars, Enmire and Pumpaling.
