Davy’s quest through the monster underworld has begun. GPTRACK50 and publisher SEGA have launched Stupid Never Dies, the studio’s pop-punk action RPG, on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. In the game, players control Davy, a weak and not particularly bright zombie at the very bottom of monster society, in a world overrun by monsters and close to destruction. After a fateful “snackcident”, Davy heads into the underworld to defeat KOM, the King of all Monsters, and save both the world and Julia, the frozen human girl he loves.
To mark the launch, the team has released a live-action trailer called Julia Never Dies, which acts as a prequel to the game. It follows Julia, a rifle-carrying cheerleader fighting through the apocalypse, and shows how she came to end up frozen in an ice cream shop freezer at a shopping mall.
Hiroyuki Kobayashi, President of GPTRACK50, reflected on nearly three years of development and thanked players who supported the game along the way:
After nearly three years bringing life (or should that be death?) to Davy, we couldn’t be happier to finally share Stupid Never Dies with the world. As a new studio that has come together out of our passion and love for action games, being able to bring the genre we love to fellow action game fans is an achievement we hold in high esteem. We are truly grateful to everyone who has wishlisted the game, played the demo, and left feedback to help us improve the experience – we couldn’t have done it without you. We hope you enjoy Davy’s story, and have a stupid amount of fun!
Combat encourages relentless attacking rather than dodging, and a flexible targeting system lets Davy take on enemies from all directions. Every dive into the dungeon starts at level 1, but enemies defeated in previous dives speed up growth and experience gain exponentially, so the maximum level can be reached in around 30 minutes. Davy can also eat enemies using Style Eat to repair his body and take on their powers, with more than 11 styles to collect, and modify his arms, legs and head at Acelino’s shop using Over Technology gathered on each run.
The Stupid Never Dies Original Soundtrack is also out now on major streaming platforms including Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify. It features 80 pop-punk tracks, including two theme songs.
Stupid Never Dies is available now on Steam and PlayStation 5. The Standard Edition costs $49.99 USD, while the Glorious Idiot Edition, which includes the TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload Pack DLC, costs $59.99 USD.
