Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling Launches On Steam In December, Switch And PS5 In January 2027

Heidi is heading back to the Alps, this time as an adult. Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling, a story-driven adventure from developer Humble Reeds, will release on PC via Steam in December 2026. Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 versions follow in January 2027. A demo is available now as part of the October Steam Next Fest.

The game builds on the children’s novel Heidi, which follows a five-year-old girl and her grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Rather than retelling the original story, Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling picks up with Heidi as a young woman looking for a break from life in a busy city. Back in the mountains, she reconnects with her grandfather, her childhood friend and other villagers, and helps to rebuild a village high in the Alps.

Goats are central to the day-to-day routine. Players guide them through meadows, look after their needs, choose the best flowers for them to graze on and keep them entertained with toys. Milk and wool collected at the end of each day become resources used to restore the village. Heidi can also craft and trade goods such as cheese, clothing and herbal remedies.

Exploration takes Heidi through forests, valleys and lakes, with new traversal abilities unlocking over time to make climbing and jumping to new areas easier. Villagers offer quests, and branching dialogue choices allow players to strengthen Heidi’s relationships. The alpine setting is presented in a watercolour art style, and the story touches on the balance between productivity and reflection as Heidi works out where she belongs.

Humble Reeds co-founders Mélanie Christin and Aurélien Condomines spoke about their connection to the original novels and what they hope the game offers players:

he Heidi novels left a profound impact on us growing up. Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling takes our passion for the novels and provides a wonderful backdrop for us to create titles with heartfelt stories that resonate with audiences of all ages.

At launch, the game will support English, French, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling releases in December 2026 on PC via Steam, with Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 versions arriving in January 2027.
