Square Enix has released Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, gathering all instalments in the main run of its long-running action RPG collaboration series with Disney, into a single package for all current hardware. The collection will run natively on each platform rather than through cloud streaming, which earlier Switch 1 releases relied upon, and owners of those editions are among the players offered a cheaper path to the new release.
Rather than a new remaster, Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] combines three existing compilations: Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC). Together they cover the following:
- Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (HD cutscene compilation), Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (HD cutscene compilation)
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover (movie) and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC): Kingdom Hearts III and the Re Mind DLC
Across these entries, players follow Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy as they travel between Disney and Pixar worlds, using the Keyblade to push back the Darkness and meeting a wide cast of Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix characters along the way. Friendship sits at the heart of the narrative, and combat plays out in real time, with mechanics that change from game to game.
Players don’t have to buy everything at once. Each of the three compilations can be bought on its own as a digital-only purchase, or players can pick up the complete Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], which is the only option offered in both physical and digital formats. All four products are available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Store on Windows.
Which version players choose also determines whether they receive a platform-exclusive Keyblade, included as part of the in-game content:
- Nintendo Switch 2: the Long Night Keyblade, with the digital or physical Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], or the digital Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC)
- PlayStation 5: the Midnight Blue Keyblade, with the digital or physical Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], or the digital Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC)
- Xbox Series X|S: the Phantom Green Keyblade, with the digital Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] or the digital Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC)
Those returning to the series from older hardware may be able to save on the move. Players who already own digital versions of the games on Nintendo Switch (Cloud ver.), PlayStation 4 or Xbox One are eligible for a 50 per cent discount on digital post-launch purchases on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Save data is a different story. Only Nintendo Switch (Cloud ver.) owners can carry their progress across, transferring saves to Nintendo Switch 2. Save transfers are not supported on any other platform, so PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players moving to the new versions will be starting fresh.
