Capcom used Gamescom Opening Night Live to debut a new trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override, offering the first extended look at the action platformer and detailing several gameplay elements, bosses, and playable characters not previously shown.
It is the twelfth main entry in the classic Mega Man series and will be released in 2027 for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, the PC version being available through Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store.
A second playable character has been revealed: Proto Man makes a return along with the Blue Bomber, the roaming warrior bringing his own set of abilities and thus giving players two different ways of approaching challenges. The trailer has also shown off the game’s new Override system, which enables robots to temporarily go beyond their normal capabilities. This increased performance, however, has a disadvantage since the robot’s performance drops again once Override ends, meaning that the timing of its activation is important when using it.
There is also the Custom Chip system, a personalisation feature which allows players to install chips in order to give Mega Man and Proto Man extra abilities. The available power-ups are rapid-fire, a protective shield bubble and hover, and the system is designed with a focus on trying out various combinations of chips.
On the boss front, Twinkle Girl was shown as one of eight new Robot Masters. The character fights using firework-themed attacks, and as in previous entries, players will be able to analyse and convert the abilities of defeated Robot Masters into special weapons. Those special weapons carry strategic advantages but consume energy with each use. The trailer showed one in action: a charge attack that doubles as an aerial dash for extra mobility.
Capcom also teased the possible return of classic Robot Masters, noting that fans may recognise that Astro Man from Mega Man 8 appears in the trailer. More details are to follow.
