Team Lazerbeam and Devolver Digital have announced that Shroom and Gloom, a first-person roguelike built around dungeon crawling and two separate card decks, will enter Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026.
Set within a network of hand-drawn dungeons, Shroom and Gloom challenges players to explore increasingly dangerous underground areas while building combinations from hundreds of available cards. Its central mechanic divides those cards between two decks, with each serving a different role during a run. The Explore deck is used to interact with the environment, allowing players to reveal, search, break, unlock, ignite, feed and repair objects as they venture further underground. Combat encounters instead draw upon a dedicated Combat deck, which provides the tools needed to hack, slash, roast and consume the fungal creatures standing between the player and the underground realm known as The Gloom.
Enemies can also become a resource once defeated. Fallen fungal creatures can be skewered, seasoned and roasted before being eaten to restore health, or added to a pot to create soups capable of providing additional benefits. Cards themselves can be continually modified and upgraded throughout a run. According to the developers, even low-level starting cards can eventually become powerful attacks, while rarer cards can be developed into particularly strong abilities.
Visually, Shroom and Gloom combines hand-drawn artwork with 3D environments, creating a surreal setting populated by mushroom-inspired creatures. The Early Access version will also feature hundreds of cards, meta progression and a range of enemies spread throughout its caves and tunnels.
