Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming title, Echoes of Aincrad, offering a closer look at the mechanics driving the next game in Sword Art Online’s video game chronology. The game is set within the multi-tiered floors of the flying castle of Aincrad and is scheduled to launch on 10 July 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The gameplay experience revolves around real-time combat and a traditional RPG progression system. As players navigate the various levels of the castle, they earn growth points that can be allocated to specific attributes to suit their preferred playstyle. These attributes include core stats such as strength, dexterity, and stamina.
In addition to these internal upgrades, players can collect a wide variety of weapons and armor pieces. Utilizing the smithy to enhance this equipment is described as an essential part of becoming strong enough to face the castle’s more formidable enemies.
The combat involves a specialized partner system. Players are accompanied by a companion who responds to direct commands or acts autonomously in the heat of battle. The core of this collaboration is the Switch system, which allows players to seamlessly swap fighting roles with their partner. This mechanic enables the chaining of attacks and the ability to split incoming damage between characters. Each partner also brings a unique Special Skill to the field, allowing for different tactical approaches depending on who is chosen to fight alongside the player.
