HoYoverse has announced that the next major update for Honkai: Star Rail, titled Version 4.2 “So Laughed the Masses”, is scheduled to release on 22 April 2026. This update brings a shift to the Phantasmoon Games narrative, as the ultimate reward has been escalated to grant the victor the status of permanent Aeon of Elation. This development places the Trailblazer under the spotlight of various factions across the universe.
The story moves to Seafeld City, a holiday resort known for its scenery and climate. Here, players will encounter Fulwish, the leader of the Research Society of Happy Smiles and a media mogul. Fulwish has invited contestants to his television headquarters for a public debate regarding the future impact of the Phantasmoon Games. This televised confrontation serves as a backdrop for the Trailblazer to navigate traps and collect Wishpower while Silver Wolf and Pearl engage in a separate, mysterious arrangement.
Two new 5-star characters will be introduced during this version. Silver Wolf LV.999 is an Imaginary-type character following the Path of Elation. This version of the character represents her reaching level 999 and evolving into a “Godmode Player”. In battle, she accumulates “Hidden MMR” to activate a special “Reward stage” where she can spawn in-game items to buff teammates and damage enemies. She also possesses a passive ability to hack into the battlefield and protect allies from control effects even when not in the active party. Of course, we will soon see if being a “Godmode Player” see’s her actually fare well in battle.
Evanescia is the second new 5-star character, a Physical-type following the Path of Elation. Having served as a “Special Observer” for multiple iterations of the Phantasmoon Games, her true identity is expected to be revealed in the new story chapters. Her mechanics revolve around “Certified Banger” stacks, which she gains through energy regeneration or teammate interactions. Accumulating these points increases her damage and triggers follow-up attacks from a companion known as “Master Fox”.
The Trailblazer will also unlock the Path of Elation in Version 4.2. Using a glow stick as a weapon, the Trailblazer can switch between a lightblade and nunchucks to deal multiple instances of damage. Their Ultimate ability allows them to cheer for a teammate, granting them “Certified Banger” points and allowing the immediate use of an Elation Skill.
The update coincides with the game’s third anniversary on 26 April 2026. To mark the occasion, the “Festive Gifts” event returns, offering players a total of 20 pulls via a check-in system. On the anniversary day, players can claim a blessing card to receive 1,600 Stellar Jades. The “Stellar Convergence” store will also add limited 5-star characters Huohuo and Robin, which can be acquired using a free Golden Companion Spirit. Other anniversary bonuses include a reset of the first-time top-up double bonus and new items in the Gift of Stardust Store.
Event Warps for Version 4.2 have been divided into two halves. The first half features reruns for The Dahlia, Castorice, and Firefly. The second half will see the return of Tribbie, Sunday, and Feixiao. Additionally, HoYoverse has confirmed that Firefly, Huohuo, Seele, and Welt will all receive character buffs in this update.
New gameplay content includes the “Cosmic Data Roaming” event, where players simulate a streaming career, and an expansion to Currency Wars. The Cosmicon Collective will also receive a 2.0 update with new decks and a team challenge mode. Other features arriving in the update include “Express Renovation Escapade” and “Relic Recon”.
