Idea Factory International has announced the launch of its historical fantasy otome visual novel, Homura: The Crimson Warriors, for the Nintendo Switch. The title is currently available both physically and digitally in North America. European players can now purchase the game via the Nintendo eShop, with a physical release for the region slated to arrive on 28 April 2026.
Originally released in Japan for the PlayStation Vita in 2018, this version allows Western fans to experience a narrative set during the final chapter of the Warring States period. The story takes place 14 years after the Battle of Sekigahara, as the Tokugawa shogunate attempts to dismantle the Toyotomi clan. Players control Mutsumi Mochizuki, who joins Nobushige Sanada and the Sanada Ten Braves at Osaka Castle to defend against the Ura Yagyu, an elite group of assassins.
Gameplay revolves around managing relationships and combat effectiveness through several distinct systems. The Energy Reading feature allows players to monitor the affection and Ring status of the male leads. Mutsumi can choose to accelerate these Rings to unlock special abilities, though this process drains the character’s physical health and requires careful management.
To assist with navigating the different narrative paths, the game includes a Ninja Guidance system. Using ninja scrolls, players can track their position in the story and revisit specific scenes to adjust affection or Ring levels, thereby influencing the final outcome of the plot. The game features multiple endings and unique CG artwork to illustrate the historical fantasy setting.
