Producers John Frost for Crossroads Live and Opera Australia have announced that tickets are now on sale for the Brisbane season of the Broadway musical Anastasia. The production will be held at the Lyric Theatre within the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), with performances scheduled from 16 September to 4 October 2026 – and is one of the upcoming legs of a currently ongoing national tour.
Anastasia made its Australian debut in December at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. The principal cast for the Australian run features Georgina Hopson in the lead role of Anya, alongside Robert Tripolino as Dmitry, Joshua Robson as Gleb, and Rodney Dobson as Vlad. They are joined by Rhonda Burchmore playing Countess Lily and Nancye Hayes AM as the Dowager Empress. It is very likely that a group of local kids will also be able to audition for the role of Young Anastasia.
The production’s ensemble includes Sophia Bae, Elliot Baker, Nicholas Cunningham, Davis Giotopoulos Moore, Todd Goddard, Stephanie Kurlow, Keian Langdon, Bella Minniti, Nathan Stafford, Alexis Van Maanen, Patrick Volpe, Annie Wilson, Deone Zanotto, and Andrea Zappacosta. The swings team consists of Manon Gunderson-Briggs, Iosefa Laga’aia, Nathan Pinnell, and Emma Russell.
Inspired by both the 1997 Academy Award nominated animated film and the historical rumours surrounding Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov’s survival during the Russian Revolution, the stage adaptation features a creative team consisting of Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty, and Lynn Ahrens. The storyline follows a young woman named Anya as she attempts to uncover the truth about her past. Her journey takes her from the final days of the Russian Empire to Paris in the 1920s. Along the way, she teams up with a con artist and a former aristocrat, all while being pursued by an army officer who is determined to stop her.
Ticketing information for all legs of the Australian tour can be found via the official Anastasia the Musical Australian website.
