Marvelous Europe has officially released their Action RPG and Life-Sim title, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is now available for digital purchase on both platforms, with a physical standard edition for PlayStation 5 also available through select retailers.
The digital release is offered in three tiers: Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Super Digital Deluxe. These are priced at £49.99 / €59.99, £59.99 / €69.99, and £69.99 / €79.99 respectively. As a launch promotion, all digital purchases include the “Rune Factory 4 Hero Outfit Bundle” and are discounted by 10% for PlayStation Plus subscribers and on the Xbox Store until 13 March.
These new console versions bring content parity with previous releases, including all post-launch updates that were released for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC platforms. Additionally, previously released downloadable content, such as the free “STORY OF SEASONS Bundle” and the “Sakuna DLC,” are available on the respective digital storefronts starting today.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is set in the eastern lands of Azuma, a region pitched as being ravaged by an event known as the Celestial Collapse. With the power of runes ceased and nature gods in retreat, the land has suffered from a spreading blight. Players assume the role of an Earth Dancer, a protagonist who enters into a contract with a dragon to restore vitality to the region.
The gameplay loop combines traditional Rune Factory elements with new mechanics suited to the setting. Players can choose between two protagonists whose fates are intertwined. As an Earth Dancer, the player is tasked with farming, rebuilding villages, and engaging in combat using new weapon types such as the Bow and Talismans.
The game features a village-building mechanic where players must strategically construct buildings to encourage NPCs to return and contribute to the community. Relationship building returns as a core feature, allowing players to befriend or romance eligible candidates, which include both mortals and gods. These characters can also be recruited to assist in battle or help manage village operations. The visual style and seasonal themes of the game are heavily inspired by Japanese culture.
