Saber Interactive has revealed it is developing a new “AAA” action game based on the John Wick film franchise. Currently untitled, the project is being produced for the PlayStation 5 in collaboration with Lionsgate and series director Chad Stahelski. Actor Keanu Reeves is also involved in the production of the title, which aims to integrate into the existing lore of the series.
The game will feature an original narrative set during a specific period of John Wick’s life. According to the developer, this story will include established characters from the films alongside new individuals created specifically for the interactive experience. The plot is being developed through a partnership between Saber’s writing team, Stahelski, and Lionsgate to ensure it fits the broader franchise vision.
To replicate the specific aesthetic of the movies, the project will utilise neo-noir environments and cinematic camerawork. Gameplay is being built around a bespoke combat system designed to facilitate the “gun-fu” style of fighting and intense driving sequences synonymous with the brand. Saber has indicated that these mechanics are being developed from the ground up to allow players to interact with the world in a way that mimics the choreography found in the cinema.
