SEGA has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will receive a physical retail release later this year. The physical edition is scheduled to arrive on store shelves on 26 March 2026. This edition will feature the full base game included directly on the cartridge.
The latest entry in the racing franchise introduces a mechanic where players warp through Travel Rings to access new dimensions during races. The gameplay supports both solo and team based racing formats, with options for offline play as well as online competition against players globally. The core loop involves building and customising vehicles to suit different racing styles, alongside unlocking gadgets and utilising power up items to secure victory.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds features a roster of characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe, but also expands into other franchises – both other SEGA franchises and the wider pop culture landscape. As of writing, the game has seen the inclusion of guest racers such as Hatsune Miku, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Pac-Man – some available via DLC.
